Cycle through the Middle Ages in Albarracín and Teruel, past geological wonders and fascinating castles in the land of Aragón and Valencia. And taste the region; truffles, ham, olives and 'orxata'.

This is the most versatile cycling holiday, along all my favorite places!

It seems as if you see a castle (or ruin) on the horizon in every village in this region; Peracense, Albarracín, the Sierra de Espadán, Sagunto ...

This tour takes you fascinating landscapes and special constructions . From the red, rugged sandstone fantasy rocks you travel via the railroad path 'Via Verde' and an intensely green 'jungle' full of cork oaks to the clear blue Mediterranean sea, with its vast orange groves. You stay in special places, in an 'eco hotel', on a truffle farm, an old villa or a monastery.

A trip of 7 or 9 days with challenging slopes for sporty cyclists or electric enthusiasts!

A bike ride full of highlights, through beautiful protected nature areas in the provinces of Teruel (Aragón), Castellón and Valencia.

Start and end at the city of Valencia, on the Mediterranean Sea. Be amazed by the architecture, the enormous parks and the rich decoration of this city, with a medieval centre, 'modernist' market halls and futuristic buildings of Santiago Calatrava.

In the interior, it looks like every village

has its own castle (or ruins) on a cliff on the horizon. Peracense, Albarracín, the Sierra de Espadán, Sagunto ... Here too you will find exceptional structures and fascinating landscapes. From the red, rugged sandstone fantasy rocks around Albarracín and Teruel you cycle through the Sierra de Espadán - an intensely green 'jungle' full of cork oaks - to the clear blue Mediterranean sea, with its vast orange groves. You stay in special places, like an 'eco hotel', on a truffle farm, an old villa or a monastery.

A trip of 5, 7 or 9 days with quite challenging slopes and winding roads; ideal for sporty cyclists or electric enthusiasts!

Below you will find the complete 9-day program. For the 7-day program, skip day 6 and 7 from the list below.

Do you want to cycle more or fewer days or have a rest somewhere in between?

We are happy to make a customized program.

Day 1 (Monday)

Arrival in Valencia,

(flight not included.)

Stay at **** hotel Acteon or ****Silken Puerta Valencia, within walking distance of the famous park by the Turia river and the futuristic buildings of architect Santiago Calatrava.

Day 2 (Tuesday)

Peracense-Albarracin (37 or 55 km)

Transfer from Valencia to Peracense, the starting point of the bike ride. You start at the fascinating castle, which blends seamlessly into the environment of red sandstone. Through a vast plateau you slowly descend to the fortified town of Albarracín.

If you opt for the long route today, you will make many more altitude meters through a constantly changing landscape. The last 10 kilometers you cycle through a beautiful canyon, parallel to the river Guadalaviar.

Stay at ***Hotel Albarracin.

Day 3 (Wednesday)

Albarracin-Teruel (42 km)

After a short climb you cycle through the Pinares de Rodeno nature reserve, where you can literally look into the crust of the earth, with all kinds of rocks coming to the surface. The view over the vast plain of the Jiloca is fantastic, and you cycle through a forest full of huge red boulders in the most bizarre forms. Then it goes downhill to Teruel, where you spend the night. Teruel is famous for its 'jamon' (smoked ham) and of course the Moorish architecture. You will stay at ***Hotel Mudayyan, around the corner from the lively Plaza Torico square, with many nice bars and restaurants. In summer you stay at ****Parador de Teruel, with private swimming pool.

Day 4 (Thursday)

Teruel - Albentosa, 60 km

From Teruel you cycle through a forest to an old railway bridge. Here you merge onto Via Verde, a cycle path on an old mining railway. You climb slowly, through an area full of red clay hills, surrounded by pine trees and the scent of wild rosemary and thyme.

From Puerto de Escandón you will once again reach a plateau. Black truffles grow under the orange soil, a delicacy from this region. And you pass a 'dryer' where you can taste the local ham and wine.

You stay at one of our favorite accommodations: 'La Casa de la Estación'. This B&B is one kilometer from the spectacular Albentosa Viaduct, over a deep canyon; a nice area to go for a walk in the afternoon. The owners of the B&B grow black truffles around the house and prepare delicious food for their guests. (dinner is not included)

Day 5 (Friday)

Albentosa -  Segorbe, 70 km

Today's stage covers countless bridges and some long tunnels (up to 500m in length). You also pass the 50 meter high viaduct at Albentosa. Spectacular! From Barracas you start a descent and you hardly have to pedal anymore.

You stay in Hotel Spa Martin el Humano, a luxury four-star hotel with spa facilities in Segorbe.

Day 6 (Saturday)

Moorish castles Segorbe-Ain, 33-55 km

(This day is part of the 9-day route and will expire if you choose the 7-day route)

Moorish Castle Tour from Segorbe,

34 or 55 km

Today you cycle a circular route along various Moorish castles. There is a long and short variant. In both cases you cycle through the Sierra de Espadán, a protected nature reserve.

It is known for its cork oaks, rugged crimson rock formations and orchards full of almond trees, with picturesque villages and Moorish castles on the horizon.

The short route has 500 vertical meters, both uphill and downhill. This route is easy to do on an e-bike.
The long route (+1000 and -1000m) is only suitable for very experienced cyclists who are not afraid of descents along deep ravines.

Day 7 (Sunday)

Segorbe-Mar de Fulles, 30 km

(This day is part of the 9-day route. If you choose the 7-day route, you will still be staying in the eco hotel mentioned below.)

Via the edge of the Sierra de Espadán you drive to 'Mar de Fulles'. This four star 'eco-hotel' is built according to a sustainable philosophy, which can be found in all sorts of details. The building is made of wood, generates its own electricity in and in the kitchen, where cooking is only done with products from the neighbourhood or from the own garden. You won't find products from 'multinationals' there. The rooms do not have a TV, but a huge window instead with panoramic views over the mountains. Most guests stay here for 2 days, to relax and enjoy peace and nature. There is a yoga facility and swimming pool.

Day 8 (Monday)

Mar de Fulles - Sagunto-Canet, 38 km

Today the Mediterranean Sea appears on the horizon. Through endless orange plantations, you descend to sea level and follow the coast to Canet d'en Berenguer, a quiet seaside resort with a beautiful sandy beach.

You spend the night in **** Hotel Els Arenals, **** AGH or ** Hotel Puerto Canet.

All comfortable hotels, close to the sea. There are beautiful boulevard and a number of excellent restaurants. Optionally, you can extend your stay to enjoy the beaches, which are way less crowded than the beaches in the city of Valencia.

Day 9 (Tuesday)

Canet - Valencia, 35/50 km

After breakfast, you cycle to Sagunto. You follow the 'Vía Xurra', a cycle path over a former railway line, right through 'the vegetable garden of Valencia', a horticultural area with small farms. At some farms, you can taste 'Horchata', a typical drink whose main ingredient is grown on the spot.

There´s an extra loop to El Marjal dels Moros, a lagune with several hided for birding lovers.

You can also follow the coastline from here and enter the city of Valencia via the boulevard.

Here you can continue cycling via the riverbed of the Turia, nowadays a city park of 8 kilometres long.

A beautiful green lung through the city, where you encounter futuristic buildings by architect Santiago Calatrava.

The bicycle package ends in Valencia.

We recommend **** hotel Silken Puerta Valencia. This hotel is within walking distance of the Turia River city park and the futuristic buildings of Calatrava. The hotel has a secure parking garage so that you could have our bikes for the rest of your stay.

In Valencia, you can do an optional guided bike tour with an English guide, from the Turia park and the futuristic City of Art and Science to the historical centre of Valencia.
